RIVERDALE, Utah, November 7, 2023 (Gephardt Daily) – Two men were arrested Monday morning after fleeing a traffic accident on northbound Interstate 15 near the Riverdale Road exit.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was called to the scene at 11:03 a.m

“I arrived at the scene to be told by two construction workers that the driver and passenger had fled the scene with two bags each, headed east and jumped a fence,” arrest documents say for Jose Noe Garcia and Erasmo Agustin Delgadillo, both 35.

“I walked to the fence leading to the Motel 6 parking lot. The individuals then directed me that the two men had run north through the parking lot and jumped another fence. I continued walking along the fence line until I found both men standing in the parking lot north of the Motel 6.”

The officer jumped over a fence “and confronted both men with a Weber County deputy,” his statement said. “One of the men surrendered while the other jumped the fence again and ran south across the parking lot. “We later found the other man hiding inside construction equipment.”

Witnesses identified the men who were captured on cameras carrying the bags.

“We located the black backpack, black backpack, gray backpack and gray nap bag inside the bed of a truck parked in the parking lot next to where I first found both men standing,” the affidavits say.

The owner of the car — which Riverdale police confirmed had been stolen from that city two days earlier — told officers the bags did not belong to her.

After K-9 samples tested positive on the bags, a search warrant was issued, and “we found illegal contraband, firearms and stolen property. We confirmed an NCIC hit with the Riverton Police Department and the vehicle, which was a 2020 Honda Civic, was stolen,” From Riverton on 04/11/2023.

Garcia, the driver, and Delgadillo, the passenger, were both booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of:

  • Possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a second-degree felony
  • Possession of a Schedule I/II/Analog Controlled Substance, a first-degree misdemeanor
  • Changing the pistol/revolver number, a first-degree misdemeanor
  • manufacture/possession of burglary tools, a class B misdemeanor
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class B misdemeanor
  • Failure to comply with duties in the event of a motor vehicle accident/property damage, a Class B misdemeanor

Garcia was also booked for investigation into:

  • Receiving or transporting a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony
  • Failure to stop at law enforcement order, a first-degree misdemeanor
  • Driving with a suspended or revoked license, a Class C misdemeanor

Both men were ordered held without bail.
