The best promotions on the Strip in the return of Formula 1

The penultimate round of the 2023 Formula 1 season gives fans plenty to enjoy off the track.

Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas this weekend for the first time since 1982. Teams and drivers will face a new track design, and if current forecasts hold, they will face one of the coldest races in Formula 1 history. The on-track action is likely to be exciting for fans to watch at the round The opening Grand Prix in Las Vegas.

There’s plenty of off-track excitement, too. The circuit winds its way down the Las Vegas Strip past famous places like Bellagio, Venice, and Caesars Palace. The sport is promoting the new race as much as possible – including a live golf event in partnership with Netflix – and fans can enjoy some special attractions on the strip this week.

Here are some of the best promotions and many experiences this week in Las Vegas ahead of Saturday night’s racing:

“Shoey” bar at Bellagio Hotel

AlphaTauri driver Daniel Ricciardo made the ‘shoe’ celebration famous in Formula 1 during his time with Red Bull. Even Sir Patrick Stewart joined the Australian driver with a ‘boot’ after the 2017 Canadian Grand Prix.

This week, the Bellagio will have a special bar set up in the hotel’s Fountain Courtyard. The “MGM Rewards Shoey Bar” will offer branded driving shoes filled with a cocktail of your choice.

Don’t worry, MGM Resorts said in a statement that the shoe includes a waterproof beverage liner to keep any substance out of the drink.

Alfa Romeo Ariya experience

Multiple teams on the Formula 1 grid partner with hotels on the Las Vegas Strip for promotions or fan experiences. The Williams Fan Zone is located in New York-New York, the Ferrari pop-up store is in the Bellagio, and McLaren has a 2,500-square-foot “experience center” in Wynn.

But Alfa Romeo’s preparation for the Ariya goes beyond merchandise, show cars or heritage cars from previous Formula 1 seasons. Fans can get a “Valtteri Bottas” haircut (a mullet inspired by the one the team’s Finnish driver unveiled this year), play timing games, and order specialty drinks as well.

Formula 1 themed wedding chapel

The “Wedding Capital of the World” offers same-day marriage licenses so couples waste no time tying the knot or eloping. This week, you can say “I do” in the pit building right next to the track. The church features racing-themed decorations and couples will receive a race-inspired bouquet of roses.

Las Vegas Grand Prix restrictions

It’s not technically a promotion or event, but the Las Vegas Strip circuit will include themed barriers, an unusual sight in Formula 1. The barriers inside and outside the corners are part of every racetrack and are usually a combination of red and white. There are a few exceptions, but the Formula 1 grid recently visited one of them: the Autodromo José Carlos Pace circuit in São Paulo, Brazil, which features yellow, green and white pavements.

This weekend, the restrictions on the Las Vegas Strip will feature card suit symbols. Diamonds, clubs, spades, and hearts are all spread out in the traditional red and white setting.
