Man Flees Accident Kills Teenager In Hit-and-Run Second: Cops

A 41-year-old man has been charged in Florida with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old pedestrian, killing a high school student as he sped away from the scene of another accident.

Edgardo Joel Rosado Perez was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Rosado Perez was in his 2018 Hyundai sedan and had dropped off his 18-year-old daughter at Bartow High School when he was involved in a minor accident with a Chevrolet SUV and fled. Immediately from the scene of the accident. Bartow High School is located about 45 miles east of Tampa, Florida.

The driver — later identified by authorities as Rosado Perez — was fleeing northbound on Jackson Street and approaching Pearl Street “at a high rate of speed” when he struck an 18-year-old student who was walking to school.

After hitting the teen with his car, authorities said Rosado Perez again fled the scene. The Barstow High School student, identified as Zachariah Klapoff, died from his injuries.
