Machine Gun Kelly appears to be the latest celebrity to go viral for a cringeworthy Formula 1 interview.

The rocker made headlines over the weekend after a video surfaced of him trolling Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle – who is no stranger to awkward conversations with US stars online – at the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

During the chat on the network, Brandel asked Kelly — whose real name is Colson Baker — to talk about what’s going on “in his career right now.”

After Brundle had to repeat himself due to the loud beating of race car drums, Kelly replied: “I’m not thinking about my career. I’m not thinking about that.

“Well, good luck with that, whatever you do,” Brundle said in response.

The former race car driver switched gears, then asked Kelly about his thoughts on Formula 1 racing.

“It’s loud, your life is on the line… it’s exciting,” Kelly said, before recalling a “beautiful” moment in the music studio “the other week” when he met driver Lewis Hamilton “in the other studio.”

Kelly changed the subject, and Brandel asked, “What do you think of my work?”

“We like your work,” he replied. “There has always been a great synergy between the music sector and the motor racing sector in one way or another.”

Brandel, who is known for chatting with celebrities at racing events, asked Kelly about his career at one point during the interview.

Kelly appeared to mock the British commentator, then asked Brandle: “Can you give me your best air guitar?”

“Oh no. I can’t handle it. “I learned to play the piano once…” Brundle explained as he punched the air.

The 33-year-old “Twin Flame” artist then excitedly insisted that the two do an “air piano and air guitar collaboration right now.”

Kelly, seen here with Megan Fox at the event, told Brandle that he’s “not thinking about his career.”

After quickly counting down from three, Kelly broke out his imaginary guitar as Brandel backed away from Kelly and said, “No, there’s millions (watching).” You do it.”

“I can’t do it, I can’t do it, maybe I need to move on, but, ’cause we have some people to see,” Brundle said before saying.

Kelly – who was at the racing event alongside fiancée Megan Fox – shot back at the camera before turning to walk away.

The interview seemed to become even more uncomfortable after this exchange, with Kelly later asking Brandel to participate in an “air piano and air guitar collaboration.”

“Something tells me I won’t be on his Christmas card list,” Brandle joked.

“My anxiety has won,” the “Forget Me Too” artist. Later expressed via X, formerly of Twitter, adding that he “hates being in public”.

Although he did not mention Brundle or F1 specifically in his posts, fans speculated that he was referring to the awkward discussion, given the timing of the tweets.

Fans criticized Kelly for the bizarre exchange, with some writing on X that the interview was “one of the most awkward in Formula 1”.

Representatives for Kelly did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Fans took to social media to call out Kelly’s seemingly uncomfortable moment with the British commentator, including one user Written via X It was “probably one of the most awkward interviews in Formula 1.”

Brandel’s interview with the “Body” rapper was equally bizarre when the interviewer ran up to Stallion and asked her to “rap” on the spot about Formula 1.

“I don’t have to rap today, I’m sorry,” Stallion said with a laugh before her security team stepped in to tell Brandle he couldn’t talk to the Grammy-winning rapper.

“I can do it, because I did it,” he told a member of Stallion’s crew.

The sports commentator’s uncomfortable spats with celebrities on the racetrack made such an impression on the Formula 1 community that officials made changes to the broadcast rules to accommodate Brundle.

In November 2021, Brandl announced the “introduction of new rules.”

“…None of the celebrities on the network should have bodyguards anymore,” Brandle wrote in a social media post, per the UK Sun.

After an exchange with the “Body” rapper, Formula 1 officials have put in place a new rule stating that celebrities cannot bring bodyguards to the grid and are expected to speak to Brundle if they are being interviewed.
