BEAUMONT, Texas — Hardin County sheriff’s deputies are asking the public for help finding the driver of a red Nissan they suspect is the shooter who sent a man to the hospital Saturday afternoon.

The suspect vehicle, Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis, fled southbound on Access Road toward Jefferson County.

Both southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 69 and 96 in Hardin County are closed after a wreck stemming from a road rage incident in which a single shot was fired.

Southbound traffic toward Beaumont was diverted to the southbound access road at Cox Lake Road after the wreck near the county line.

Deputies were assisted by Lumberton police officers, Lumberton firefighters and Acadian paramedics.

Sheriff R. Davis says:A gunshot hit the driver through his back window. He was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

The victim, male, 26 years old, city of residence, has not been released at this time.

There were two passengers in the victims’ car. Adult woman and child.

One of the witnesses the sheriff speaks to is a passenger in the shooting victim’s car.

Davis says the other vehicle fled the scene.

The sheriff said there will be noticeable damage to the back, part of the bumper is missing, and there is damage to the rear quarter panel.

Sheriff’s deputies are reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses.

The Department of Public Safety is working on the incident, and the Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.

The sheriff said they found what were believed to be parts of the suspicious car.

He said the other wreck had nothing to do with this other than that it was caused by slowed traffic.

The sheriff asks if anyone sees a red Nissan with damage to the back to call the sheriff’s office.
