A 14-year-old was killed and 5 others were injured in a crash in Middletown

                A teenager died and five others were injured after a crash late Saturday evening in Middletown, according to Middletown police and the Butler County coroner's office.  Police say they received a call at around 11:15pm on Saturday about an accident at the intersection of Verity Parkway.  and Hughes Street in Middletown.  Officers say when they arrived they found one vehicle with six people inside that had run off the road before overturning in a wooded area.  Authorities say one person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the coroner identified him as 14-year-old Laith Al-Masry.  The Lakota Local School District issued a statement mourning El-Masry, who was a freshman at Lakota West.  “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of one of our newest students at Lakota West, Leith El-Masry. Information has been shared with our families and staff about counseling and grief support that will be available during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Leith’s family and friends, as well as with our students,” the statement said. Others who were also involved in the accident.”  Five other passengers in the car were injured, ranging from minor to serious.  Officials say two of the occupants were taken to Kettering Medical Center while the other three were taken to Atrium Medical Center.  Authorities say a joint investigation is underway with Middletown Police and the Butler County Serious Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.  Officials say excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor.
