2023 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix results: Max Verstappen wins the race

Verstappen jumped ahead of Norris into the first corner to win the final race event of the season by more than 4 seconds.

Norris and George Russell (Mercedes) then swapped second place in the early stages, allowing Verstappen to retire.

Sergio PĆ©rez’s second Red Bull also passed Russell to take third place behind Norris.

Norris led into turn one from pole position but Verstappen passed his car behind him in the Senna Aces, with Russell doing likewise to pass Perez for third place.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) passed Perez to take fourth place around the outside of Decida do Lago and then passed Russell Norris to take second place on the Pico de Pato. Hamilton and Perez swapped places on the second lap, with Perez successfully maintaining his place on the subsequent lap ā€“ with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc also involved.

Norris re-passed Russell for second on lap five, while Perez overtook Russell three laps later ā€“ but the Mercedes driver quickly regained the position. Perez tried again two laps later and was able to maintain the position this time.

Verstappen succeeded in overtaking Norris by just two seconds, six laps from the end, after he was able to control his tires during high-speed corners, while third-placed Perez finished the race with a wide margin from Russell.

Leclerc passed Hamilton with three laps remaining and was followed by Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) one lap later.

The best battle on track was for the final point in eighth place, as Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz fought hard to keep Daniel Ricciardo (AlphaTauri) and Oscar Piastri (McLaren) behind him. Piastri passed Ricciardo on lap 15, allowing Sainz to retire, but Ricciardo retook Piastri with two laps to go.

Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) raced through the field after moving in qualifying with Esteban Ocon (Alpine) to finish 11thyright on Piastri’s tail ā€“ although he briefly led at the start of the final lap.
